Jimmy Cliff, Jamaican Reggae Icon, Is Lifeless

Jimmy Cliff, the Jamaican reggae singer who helped popularize the style world wide with songs like “You Can Get It If You Actually Need” and “The Tougher They Come,” has died. He was 81.

Music is like air that we breathe. And as soon as it’s there, everyone breathes it. The trade, to me, is the primary time I got here out of my mom’s womb. And I say [screaming] — and I began making my sound and I by no means stopped. Music can spotlight consciousness. And from that consciousness, individuals can take some form of motion to raised the state of affairs. I feel that’s the function music has performed by means of the ages. And I feel it’s the function that it’s enjoying now. And I feel that’s the function that it may well play.
